Biography

Gaoyuan Ouyang joined Utah State University (USU) in August 2026 after serving as a Materials Scientist at Ames National Laboratory of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). His research seeks to discover and engineer novel physical properties through high-throughput synthesis and non-equilibrium processing. His work encompasses diverse areas of materials science, including energy-related materials, structural materials, and critical materials, with an emphasis on accelerating materials discovery and development. We welcome new students to join our lab. Interested candidates are encouraged to contact Dr. Ouyang or check my website for potential research opportunities.

Research Interests

Our research focuses on the discovery, design, and processing of advanced materials for energy, structural, and critical applications. Areas of interest include materials for extreme environments, magnetic materials, high-temperature alloys, non-equilibrium processing, and high-temperature creep and deformation. We combine high-throughput synthesis and advanced characterization techniques to accelerate materials innovation and establish processing-structure-property relationships.
