USU Engineering Faculty Lead at Frontiers of Engineering Symposium
Connecting thought leaders of differing expertise can lead to groundbreaking solutions strengthened by the collaboration of diverse viewpoints.

Utah State University's Sierra Young and Hang Dai were selected for the Grainger Foundations Frontiers of Engineering Symposium at the University of Texas, September 21-24.
The Frontiers of Engineering Symposium selects 100 outstanding early-career engineers to bring together academia, government, industry and national labs to facilitate networking and discussions about innovative ideas across the fields of engineering.
"These kinds of events can be a catalyst for cutting-edge ideas where you're taking innovations from one area of engineering and seeing how you can apply it to a completely different area," said Young, an assistant professor of civil and environmental engineering.
USU Assistant Professor Sierra Young is the co-organizer of a session focused on agricultural technology at the Frontiers of Engineering Symposium.
She is the co-organizer of a session focused on agricultural technology, titled "Agriculture as a System-of-Systems: From Molecules to Markets." The session focuses on circular bioeconomy, robotics and automation and bioengineering.
Young's research focuses on field robotics, automation, and sensing systems for environmental and agricultural applications. She holds a joint teaching and research appointment at the Utah Water Research Laboratory.
"This session is very relevant to a lot of the groundbreaking research done at Utah State," said Young. "Having our faculty at this upcoming event highlights the strong engineering program that we have at USU."
Utah State assistant professor of electrical and computer engineering Hang Dai was nominated and selected to attend the Frontiers of Engineering Symposium as a participant.
"I want to leverage this opportunity to better introduce my research and our power engineering program at Utah State," he said.
Dai hopes to build connections and foster collaborations as he expands his research with USU's College of Engineering and the APSIRE research center for electrified transportation. The focus of his work is on electromagnetic compatibility, power electronics, and AI power delivery.
Through these interdisciplinary discussions, Dai and Young will represent their fields and contribute to national conversations about engineering advancements.
