USU Engineering Programs Recognized in 'Best Graduate Schools' Rankings
Utah State University's College of Engineering has several graduate programs ranked alongside the nation's top-performing institutions.
The U.S. News & World Report's Best Graduate School Rankings were released on April 8. USU earned the following rankings:
- #59 Aerospace Engineering – tied with Florida Institute of Technology and University of Miami
- #33 Biological Engineering – tied with North Dakota State University
- #73 Civil Engineering – tied with University of Houston and University of South Carolina
- #109 Electrical Engineering – tied with Florida A&M University – Florida State University and Baylor University
- #66 Environmental Engineering – tied with the University of Georgia and Howard University
- #141 Mechanical Engineering – tied with the University of Idaho and the University of Louisville
Overall, the College of Engineering ranked #111, tying with the University of Georgia, University of New Hampshire, Syracuse University, Kansas State University, and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University – Daytona Beach.
The Biological Engineering Department at USU drives innovative research in areas such as biofuels, bionanomaterials, cell and metabolic engineering, tissue engineering and waste-to-bioproducts. Alumni from the graduate program contribute to groundbreaking work in diverse fields, including consumer and medical products, diagnostics, food, pharmaceuticals and water treatment.
USU's Civil and Environmental Engineering Department features active research in water resources, environmental engineering, transportation, structural engineering and irrigation. The department also houses the Utah Water Research Laboratory and the cutting-edge SMASH Lab.
Faculty and students in the Electrical Engineering Department are involved in a variety of research areas, including wireless networks, edge computing, robotics and power systems. Their work is driving real-world innovations and making a meaningful impact on technology and industry.
USU's mechanical and aerospace engineering department is involved in research across a variety of fields, including renewable and nuclear energy, defense, aerospace, manufacturing and product design. The department is home to the Center for the Design and Manufacturing of Advanced Materials, which focuses on advancing research, helping students build expertise in materials science and working on projects funded by industry partners. The aerospace program has strong ties with the renowned Space Dynamics Laboratory, creating excellent opportunities for collaboration between students and faculty.
