College of Engineering Welcomes New Academic Recruiter

January 31, 2023

Utah State University’s College of Engineering welcomes Kristen Gabriel as the new academic recruitment specialist. She joined the dean’s office last November.

As a recruiter, Gabriel is in charge of attending various college and STEM fairs and career nights to recruit high school and transfer students. She also is the advisor for the engineering ambassador program who are students that provide support in recruitment, outreach and other college activities.

“I love the opportunity I’ve be given to work with amazing students from all over the country,” Gabriel said. “It’s been a great experience so far.”

Prior to working for the College of Engineering, she worked on the USU Brigham City campus for three years where her job included community outreach, communications and serving as the assistant to the associate vice president. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in family consumer science and human development with an emphasis in family finance at USU in 2005.

Gabriel was born and raised in Brigham City and has been married for the past 21 years. She has four kids — a 16-year-old, 11-year-old twins, and a nine-year-old. In her free time, she attends many sports practices, school plays and other events her children participate in. Additionally, Gabriel loves photography and listening to true crime podcasts.

She also enjoys something that makes others shake in fright: public speaking.

“A lot of people do not like that; it makes them nervous,” Gabriel said. “But I really enjoy it.”

Gabriel also enjoys meeting new people and sharing her love of USU with others, two qualities that give her an advantage in her career.

“I’m really excited to meet new people and share how amazing the college of engineering is,” she said. “I can’t wait to see what comes next.”
