Society of Women Engineers Recognized for Equity, Inclusion Efforts

News Release — July 13, 2022 — The Utah State University section of the Society of Women Engineers, known as SWE, was recently recognized by the American Society for Engineering Education for successfully completing the organization’s 90-Day Equity Challenge.

The Utah State University section of The Society of Women Engineers received recognition from the American Society for Engineering Education for successfully completing the organization’s 90-Day Equity challenge. SWE submitted a video of their Engineering Extrvaganza Jr. event with Diné students in Blanding.

The challenge was part of the ASEE’s Year of Impact on Racial Equity and was an invitation for “leaders of student organizations to identify and address barriers that exist within the local chapter of their organization which may prevent all equitable and inclusive engagement by all students.”

SWE’s challenge entry was a video of the new outreach program the group developed for Diné, Navajo, students in Blanding, Utah. The group received a $1,000 honorarium from ASEE to support them in future inclusion efforts.
