2026 April Dr. Ouyang was selected to join Alpha Sigma Mu, the International Professional and Honor Society for Materials Science and Engineering, for the recognition of his outstanding achievements, leadership, and contributions to research and education in the field.

2025 July Dr. Ouyang hosted two SULI students (Samuel Crowley from the University of Connecticut and William Ehrlich from Kenyon College, Ohio) in the summer of 2025, working on AlCe alloy (Sam) and FeSi alloys (Will).
2025 June We are awarded for 6 months by Ameslab Technology Maturation Program (PI: Ouyang) to develop cost-effective shape memory tires.

2025 March Dr. Ouyang presented two invited talks at the TMS Annual Meeting & Exhibition in Orlando, FL, USA, one on soft magnetic materials and another on refractory alloys. The titles are: Design of high silicon steel with improved physical properties; Creep resistant refractory multiple principal element alloy.

2023 July Dr. Ouyang hosted a SULI student Jackson Berlage coming from Gustavus Adolphus College in the summer of 2023, working on combinatory arc synthesis of Al-Ce-X alloy.
2023 April Dr. Ouyang and his group hosted a session on Saturday, April 1, 2023 for the Science Bound program in Ames lab. He demonstrated the deformation of metals and especially shape memory alloy for a total of 125 students in the 8th grade from Denison, Des Moines, Marshalltown and Osceola for the science bound program.
2023 March Dr. Ouyang is the symposium co-organizer and session chair for "Advances in Magnetic Materials" at 2023 TMS Annual Meeting.
2023 June Dr. Ouyang hosted a 50-minute demonstration or hands-on activities on metals for 8th graders for the ISU TRIO program.

2022 August Dr. Ouyang volunteered at the Iowa State Fair, representing the Ameslab team. He introduced Ameslab’s newest technology in energy saving and renewable energy for local Iowans.
2022 August Dr. Ouyang is the Co-advisor/editor for TMS JOM special topics on Refractory Metals & Materials from 2022 to 2024.
2022 August We are awarded by US DOE EERE on an FY21 AMO Multi-Topic grant to work on Al-Ce alloys (PI: Catalin Pitu (RPI), Co-PI: Gaoyuan Ouyang (Ameslab), Co-PI: Jun Cui (ISU), Co-PI: Monica Soare (GE)) .
