Set One
Localized Transportation
Transportation in and out of Cache Valley is halted by government mandates until “that ghastly situation in Logan is under control.” The earthquake made it nearly impossible for cars and public transit to operate in the valley, and the risk of infection makes walking, biking and other forms of unprotected travel far too risky. Other forms of transport, such as ATVs, have been successful, but there are far too few available to serve the population to the extent that other essential jobs can be performed. We need a local transportation solution that can navigate the valley’s terrain without traditional roadways.
Requirements:
The proposed solution(s) shall:
- R.1. Have a max speed of greater than 10 mph.
- R.2. Carry 3-4 passengers.
- R.3. Have all-terrain capabilities.
Goals:
The proposed solution(s) may:
- G.1. Have a low noise profile.
- G.2. Contain enough fuel to accommodate 2 full weeks of work.
Evacuation Vehicles
Efforts are underway to “stabilize the undead debacle” in Cache Valley and evacuate all non-zombie residents. One key obstacle are the mountain ranges surrounding the valley in all cardinal directions. The earthquake has also made it nearly impossible for cars or public transit to be used for mass evacuation. Additionally, gathering large groups of people risks spreading the virus to valley residents. We need a system that will evacuate the residents of Cache Valley in large numbers without risking widespread contamination.
Requirements:
The proposed solution(s) shall:
- R.1. Mitigate virus spread through air filtration and ventilation.
- R.2. Carry 75-100 passengers.
- R.3. Have all-terrain capabilities.
Goals:
The proposed solution(s) may:
- G.1. Consist of multiple systems/vehicles.
- G.2. Be capable of construction/deconstruction by non-engineers.
