Senior Transportation Engineer and Modeler

The ASPIRE Center, headquartered at Utah State University, has an immediate opening for a Senior Transportation Engineer and Modeler (Research Engineer Principal). They will be responsible for leading transportation-related research projects, modeling and simulation activities, and contributing to the development of electrified and personalized transportation solutions. This role offers a unique opportunity to work on cutting-edge transportation innovations that will shape the future of the field. The role will have an initial emphasis on the State of Utah and its Electrified Transportation Initiative, with additional support for programs across the ASPIRE Center. The position will involve working in partnership with many of the more than 60 industry partners and stakeholders in the Center and the State such as UDOT, WFRC, UTA, PACCAR/Kenworth, Stadler Rail, UPS, Cummins, etc.

Civil and Environmental Engineering

Associate, Assistant, or Full Professor

Utah State University’s Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) invites applications to fill a tenure track faculty position in structural engineering, with an emphasis on earthquake engineering. It is expected that this position will be filled at the Assistant or Associate Professor level; however, outstanding candidates will be considered at all levels. Applicants should have expertise in one or more of the following areas related to structural earthquake engineering: large-scale experimental testing, hybrid simulation, high performance computing, numerical modeling, performance-based earthquake engineering, community resilience, seismic assessment of complex infrastructure systems under compound earthquake and climatic hazards, probabilistic seismic hazard analyses and loss modeling, seismic retrofitting and rehabilitation, non-destructive evaluation, and soil-structure interaction. Professional registration and prior academic or practical experience are also desirable.

Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering

Associate or Assistant Professor

The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Utah State University (USU) invites applications for two tenure-track faculty positions at the Assistant and Associate Professor levels. Applicants must have a Ph.D. degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, or closely related fields. Candidates will be considered at either the assistant or (untenured) associate professor level. The positions are tenure-track academic year (funded for 9-months) appointments with an anticipated start date of January 2023. Although candidates in all areas of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering will be considered, preference may be given to those with demonstrated expertise in experimental combustion and propulsion (including atmospheric and space applications, small-sat propulsion, green-energy propulsion), or theoretical and computational hypersonic flow (including shock influenced chemical reaction in propulsion and boundary layers, hypersonic ionization, and non-equilibrium high-enthalpy flow). In addition to a clear research focus, successful applicants will also have a strong background in engineering fundamentals and will be expected at a minimum to: 1) develop a significant externally funded research program that includes a strong record of peer-reviewed publications and graduate mentorship, 2) effectively teach undergraduate and graduate courses, and 3) actively participate in assigned department and university duties, and demonstrate leadership in relevant technical societies.

Aerospace Engineering Professional Practice Assistant Professor

The Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering Department at Utah State University (Logan campus) seeks applicants for a full-time academic year (funded for 9 months) Professional Practice Assistant Professor (non-tenure track) position. Applicants with the appropriate credentials will be considered at the rank of professional practice associate or full professor. The position is open until filled, with an anticipated start date of January 2024. The primary responsibilities are developing and teaching undergraduate- and graduate-level courses in aerospace engineering. Duties include in-person and online instruction and curriculum development in the undergraduate- and graduate-level aerospace engineering courses or other relevant courses as assigned by the department head. The position requires a Ph.D. degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering, or a closely related field, and a broad range of knowledge in mechanical and aerospace engineering topics.
