Launch Your Engineering Career Kickoff a Huge Success

Sept. 9, 2021 — More than 250 students in the College of Engineering attended the Launch Your Engineering Career kickoff event on Sept. 8. The event marked the official launch of a new academic and career preparation program created to help engineering students succeed in the classroom and be more prepared for the workforce. The program provides a one-stop shop for accessing resources in areas of academics, student involvement and career readiness.

Students heard an inspiring message from U.S. Air Force Col. Mike Warner who urged attendees to hone their communication skills long before graduating from college.

“By the time I earned a master’s degree in engineering, I had never taken a public speaking class,” he told the standing-room-only crowd. “I hope that isn’t the case for all of you.”

Warner is a decorated Air Force leader who has held numerous posts around the globe. He holds a PhD in aerospace engineering and has served 21 years of active duty. Warner was the keynote speaker at Wednesday’s event, which also included a raffle, food and comments from College of Engineering Dean Jagath Kaluarachchi.
