College of Engineering Welcomes New Public Relations Specialist

Sept. 14, 2021 — Matilyn Mortensen has joined the Utah State University College of Engineering as a public relations specialist.

She will serve in a dynamic role on the college’s communications and marketing team to promote student and faculty success, engineering research and community outreach. She brings a wealth of writing and communication experience to the position.

Before joining the college, Mortensen was the news director at Utah Public Radio and prior to that was a staff writer at the Herald Journal. She is originally from Herriman, Utah, and moved to Logan in 2014 to attend USU as an undergraduate. Mortensen graduated in 2019 with a bachelor’s degree in journalism and communication and a minor in political science.

This fall, she started her second year in USU’s political science graduate program. Her thesis will explore whether allowing candidates to use campaign funds to pay for childcare increases the number of women running for state office.

When she’s not writing or producing audio, Mortensen enjoys reading, painting and visiting new places. She recently self-published a picture book that she wrote and illustrated.
