2020 Engineering State Summer Camp Canceled Due to Coronavirus

News Release — March 25, 2020 — In response to the growing concerns about COVID-19, the College of Engineering at Utah State University is canceling its 2020 Engineering State youth summer camp.

Engineering State was originally scheduled to take place June 1–4 on the USU Logan campus. To date, more than 200 participants from eight states had registered for the camp, and about 80 had paid the registration fee.

All registration payments will be refunded in the coming days.

“Because of the rapidly changing conditions on campus and across the country, organizing and hosting this major event is no longer feasible this year,” said Jagath Kaluarachchi, Dean of the College of Engineering. “We offer our sincerest apologies to those who were anticipating this exciting event. And we’re already looking forward to Engineering State 2021.”

Engineering State is a four-day summer camp for high school juniors who are interested in studying engineering. This year’s event would have marked 30 years since 1991 when the College of Engineering first hosted the camp as an official recruiting and outreach program.

“Canceling this year’s event is especially disappointing because we had planned several exciting things to celebrate the 30-year milestone,” said camp director Shelly Wardell. “We plan to reach out to everyone who registered in the near future to discuss education opportunities at USU’s College of Engineering.”
