USU Professor Receives Sudweeks Award for Contributions to Water Quality Research
June 27 2019 — Utah State University faculty Judy Sims received the Calvin K. Sudweeks Award on June 26 from the Utah Division of Water Quality.
Sims, a research associate professor in the Department of Biological Engineering, was recognized for her service as coordinator of the Utah On-Site Wastewater Treatment Training Center based at the Utah Water Research Laboratory.
Sims’ involvement in the Utah Onsite Wastewater Program began in 1983 when she served as Chairman (1983-86) and member (1986-88) of the Onsite Wastewater Disposal Technical Review Committee, which was an advisory committee to the Bureau of Drinking Water/Sanitation in the Utah Department of Health.
In 1997, Sims began implementing a training program for onsite wastewater professionals with help from the Utah Division of Water Quality.
The Sudweeks award, presented by the Water Quality Board, recognizes individuals for their contributions to water quality research.
The award was presented at the board’s monthly meeting in Salt Lake City.
