College of Engineering Welcomes New Academic Advisor

November 8, 2019

Nov. 8, 2018 – USU’s College of Engineering welcomes new academic advisor Valerie Daines. She will provide advising services to mechanical engineering students with last names A through J.

Originally from Rexburg, Idaho, Daines is a BYU-Idaho alumna who holds a bachelor’s degree in child development. She joined USU in 2015, working in the School of Graduate Studies before transferring to the College of Engineering where she worked as a staff assistant in the advising center for three years.

Daines is a talented musician. She plays six musical instruments and performed in a band while in college. Today, piano is the instrument she plays the most.

Another of Daines’ unique talents is her remarkable listening ability. “I am always interested in listening to other people's passions,” she said. “I’m excited to get to know my students and work more closely with the faculty in the College of Engineering.”

Daines is also a self-described foodie. She enjoys watching online food videos and trying new culinary ideas. She and her husband recently welcomed their first child.

“I could brag on my family all day,” she said. “I have the most supportive and fun-loving husband who I met when I moved to Logan for work. We love the outdoors and anything involving water. We have a new little boy who just turned two months old. He's a very calm and patient child, but manages to keep a resting scowl on his face all day, occasionally interrupted with a smile. They are my favorite people.”

Students can schedule advising appointments with Daines using the online scheduling tool at engineering.usu.edu/advising.
