ECE Department Wraps Up Major Renovation

November 15, 2019

Nov. 15, 2019 — USU’s Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering recently finalized a six-month renovation of its office headquarters. The new facility in the Engineering Labs Building features a beautiful new glass storefront, reception area and renovated conference room.

In June, crews began demolishing the decades-old space to make room for an inviting new design that better reflects the mission of the department.

“When parents and visitors walked into our old space with its 1970s look and feel, it didn’t send the right message,” said department head Jake Gunther. “We wanted to create a welcoming, modern space that reflects the quality of our department and our academic programs.”

The new office complex features a modern quartz-lined reception desk and seating area. The large conference room accommodates two dozen occupants and features dimmable lighting for presentations or thesis and dissertation defenses.

The renovation is one of a handful of recent projects. The department recently renovated a large computer lab and classroom space in the same building. The department is also working to install a new power electronics laboratory on the 3rd floor.
