As the Director of the Energy Technology Research & Innovation (eTRI) Lab at Utah State University, Dr. Wang is working with a group of highly motivated students on various energy-related research. He has broad research expertise in heat transfer and advanced energy systems, current research topics include:

• Integrated energy systems for carbon-free power and industrial processes
• Hydrogen production, storage and utilization (e.g., ammonia, syn-fuel, etc.)
• Supercooling-based thermal energy storage and freeze desalination systems
• Transcritical power cycles for concentrated solar and geothermal power
• Microchannel heat exchangers (HEX) and bi-metal HEX using AM technologies
• Thermal management of electronics and EV charging stations
• Waste heat recovery and emission control for internal combustion engines
• Thermal transport of supercritical fluids and on superhydrophobic surfaces

The goal of the eTRI lab is to create more sustainable energy future through fundamental thermal transport research, process integration and component innovations, and stochastic system modeling, simulations and optimization. Machine learning (e.g. ANN) has also recently been incorporated into our system design and optimization for an integrated energy system. His research has been funded by various federal agencies including various DOE offices and programs such as the office of Nuclear Energy (NEUP), Solar Energy Technology Office, Building Technology Office and Hydrogen/Fuel Cell Program. Some recent work has also been funded and supported by various companies including NuScale Power, Thermo Fisher Scientific, Medtronic and Cummins. He has over 50 referred publications and is the inventor of several technologies.
