Dairy Waste

SWBEC has a collaboration with the Caine Research Dairy, affiliated with Utah State University, in treating their waste using rotating algal biofilm reactors installed in lagoon style treatment plants.

We are looking at Cyanobacteria production on these reactors to extract phycocyanins, a therapeutic with several uses. There is also some patented technology to use algal biofilm produced on these reactors to derive meso-biliverdin, a biosimilar product to biliverdin-IX?, a therapeutic used for its antioxidant and immunosuppressant properties.

We are also using UASBs to test cow manure as feed that has a unique proprietary blend of methanogens, and this testing is yielding promising results.
