Director of Electrified Transportation Planning

The ASPIRE Center, headquartered at Utah State University, has an immediate opening for a Director of Electrified Transportation Planning. This high visibility position will play a key role in developing and executing a unified transportation electrification plan for Utah with expansion to additional states and regions in the coming years. Success will come through leadership and coordination among state, transit and planning agencies, and active engagement with industry, nonprofits, and communities across the state. The Director will lead the efforts of a targeted team of experts at ASPIRE in electrified transportation planning and stakeholder engagement, and will draw innovation into the planning process from more than 300 faculty and students across 10 university partners in ASPIRE. The position can be a remote or in-person based out of USU offices in the greater Salt Lake City area, but the Director must live in the State of Utah. The position requires meetings with partners in the greater Salt Lake City area and occasional visits to Logan, Utah, and travel to stakeholders throughout Utah.

Senior Transportation Engineer and Modeler

The ASPIRE Center, headquartered at Utah State University, has an immediate opening for a Senior Transportation Engineer and Modeler (Research Engineer Principal). They will be responsible for leading transportation-related research projects, modeling and simulation activities, and contributing to the development of electrified and personalized transportation solutions. This role offers a unique opportunity to work on cutting-edge transportation innovations that will shape the future of the field. The role will have an initial emphasis on the State of Utah and its Electrified Transportation Initiative, with additional support for programs across the ASPIRE Center. The position will involve working in partnership with many of the more than 60 industry partners and stakeholders in the Center and the State such as UDOT, WFRC, UTA, PACCAR/Kenworth, Stadler Rail, UPS, Cummins, etc.

Director of Marketing and Communications

The ASPIRE Center, headquartered at Utah State University, has an immediate opening for a Director of Marketing and Communications (Marketer SR). The Director will play a pivotal role in strengthening and expanding the ASPIRE brand and shaping how stakeholders and the public engage in the vision of an electrified future in transportation. The Director will be responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive public relations and marketing strategies that foster awareness, engagement, ongoing stakeholder relationships, and support for ASPIRE's vision. The role will have an initial emphasis on the State of Utah and its Electrified Transportation Initiative, with additional support across the ASPIRE Center.

Grants and Programs Specialist

The ASPIRE Center, headquartered at Utah State University, has an immediate opening for a Grants & Programs Specialist (Grant Writer III). The Grants & Programs Specialist is a dynamic and highly organized individual who will manage proposal development, research program reporting, and related team building and convening with stakeholders, partners, and ASPIRE participants. The Specialist will support proposals and programs both within ASPIRE and with key stakeholders in Utah to raise federal funding in support of the State's unified transportation electrification plan. This role will be responsible to create and maintain positive relationships with funding providers and other stakeholders.

Graphic Designer

The ASPIRE Center, headquartered at Utah State University, is seeking a highly creative and motivated Graphic Designer (Graphic Designer SR) to join our dynamic team. As a Graphic Designer, you will play a vital role in visually communicating our research, innovation, and impact to a diverse audience. You will be responsible for creating visually compelling and engaging design materials that effectively convey the ASPIRE mission and research activities, including the State of Utah's Electrified Transportation Initiative.

Technical Writer

The ASPIRE center, headquartered at Utah State University, is seeking a talented Technical Writer to join our dynamic team. This role will play a vital part in facilitating effective communication within our Engineering Research Center as well as the State of Utah's Electrified Transportation Initiative, bridging the gap between complex technical research and external stakeholders. The Technical Writer will be responsible for creating, editing, and maintaining documentation that conveys the scientific and engineering research findings, technologies, and achievements of ASPIRE to a wide range of audiences. These include documents for proposals, project reports, public relations and marketing, community engagement, and annual reports to NSF and the State of Utah. This position is an excellent opportunity for an experienced writer who is passionate about science and engineering and thrives in a collaborative, interdisciplinary research environment.

Ph.D. Students

USU Power Electronic Lab (UPEL) at Utah State University is looking for highly motivated Ph.D. students. Both research and teaching assistant positions are available. An earned master’s degree is preferred.

The prospective student will have chance to work on a variety of research topics include high-performance power converters, dynamic wireless power transfer for electric vehicles, ultra-high efficiency electric drivetrains, energy storage management systems, integration of distributed resources for electrified roadways and micro-grids.

The Electric Vehicle and Roadway (EVR) Research and UPEL facilities include a recently completed quarter mile electrified test track designed uniquely for wireless power research, high bay research facility with vehicle lift and dyno, motor-generator set, 400A DC and AC power bus distribution, modular battery pack rated at 54 kWh/240 kW, and programmable 100 kW AC and DC power equipment.

The group has more than $10M ongoing funding from federal agents and industry. The group has close relationship with more than 20 industry partners through SELECT center and has lots of opportunities for internship. This summer four of our Ph.D. candidates had internships at GE Research Lab, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Tesla and Texas Instruments. The graduated Ph.D. students got offers from Ford, TI, Apple, John Deere and United Technologies Research Center.
