New Student Admission Requirements

Testing out of CS 1400

Students may take the CS 1400 Challenge Exam to receive credit for CS 1400. This provides students who already have a background in programming an option to begin with courses at their level of experience.

Admission Criteria for Computer Science Majors

Student Status CS Program Status Acceptance Criteria
New first-year students Admissible to the CS pre-professional program, as long as all acceptance criteria is met. A minimum high school GPA of 2.5
Transfer students with MATH 1210 (Calculus I) prerequisites, or higher Admissible to CS pre-professional program, as long as all acceptance criteria is met.
  • Demonstrated completion of MATH 1210 - Calculus I prerequisites
  • A minimum GPA of 2.5 in all transfer coursework
  • A minimum grade of C- in any Math or Computer Science courses that will be used toward a degree in CS at USU
  • No more than 3 repeats among any courses that will count toward CS pre-professional requirements.
Transfer students without MATH 1210 (Calculus I) prerequisites Not admissible to CS.

Transfer students must be Calculus-ready, as well as meet the following criteria:

  • A minimum GPA of 2.5 in all transfer coursework
  • A minimum grade of C- in any Math or Computer Science courses that will be used toward a degree in CS at USU
  • No more than 3 repeats among any courses that will count toward CS pre-professional requirements.
