About USU Society of Women Engineers (SWE)

What is SWE?

The Utah State University section of the Society of Women Engineers is a club that supports the SWE mission:

Empower women to achieve full potential in careers as engineers and leaders, expand the image of the engineering profession as a positive force in improving the quality of life, and demonstrate the value of diversity.

While USU SWE is primarily a club for women engineers, all supporters of women engineers of any gender or major are welcome to join and serve as a club officer. USU SWE is one of the most active student organizations at Utah State University.

What Does USU SWE Do?

USU SWE events and activities focus on:

  • Leadership
  • Conferences
  • SWE Networking
  • Professional Development
  • Outreach

Leadership: Members have a long history of participating in leadership roles at local and society levels. Locally, students can be involved in organizing social, fundraising, outreach, and professional development events. Additionally, active members are eligible for SWE scholarships.

Conferences: USU SWE members attend the society's Annual Conference and Local Conference each year. Workshops, networking with peers and professionals, research presentations, and competitions provide opportunities to sharpen professional, personal, and technical skills.

SWE Networking: USU SWE organizes social events for students including study lounges, opening and closing socials, holiday parties, and service projects. These activities help SWE members connect with other students, form study groups, and build a support network.

Professional Development: Leaders plan activities and events that prepare members for future careers. Activities include resume and networking workshops, business etiquette presentations, industry networking events, tech talks, career fairs, and society conferences. USU SWE's premier networking event is Evening With Industry, which is held fall semester.

Outreach: Cache Valley and other communities in northern Utah and Southern Idaho are benefited by outreach events organized by USU SWE. Events include Engineering Extravaganza, Science Unwrapped, science fair demonstrations and judging, National Engineers Week, and Expanding Your Horizons workshops.
