USU Shines at American Water Works Association Scholarship Challenge
Feb. 13, 2020 — Utah State University engineering students recently won three of four scholarships from the American Water Works Association, Intermountain Section. The winners are (in alphabetical order).

Tim Clark: Winner of a $2,000 graduate scholarship. Clark is a master’s student in civil engineering with a specialization in hydraulics, fluid mechanics and urban water planning. He expects to graduate in May. He has worked as a teaching assistant for engineering mechanics of materials and engineering statics and as an undergraduate teaching fellow in hydrology. He’s currently an intern at Keller Associates in Pocatello, Idaho. His career goals are to help design and rebuild the country’s aging infrastructure. Clark has been on the Engineering Dean’s List, been named an Outstanding Pre-Professional Student and has served as a chapter chair of the American Society of Civil Engineering USU chapter and vice president and president of USU’s AWWA student chapter.
Irene Garousi Nejad: Winner of a $1,000 Eva Nieminski Scholarship. Garousi-Nejad is a PhD student who studies hydrology with a research focus on improving flood inundation and water supply forecasting in the western United States. She has published nine peer-reviewed scientific articles and two technical reports. Her goals are to conduct innovative research in partnership with decision-makers in the Hydrology Section Student Subcommittee of the American Geophysical Union with the goal of enhancing the experience of student and early career members of the Hydrology Section; fostering dialogue between current and future generations of hydrologists around the globe; and working closely with leadership to identify and propose innovative ways for mentoring and networking young scientists.
Jade Snyder: Winner of a $1,500 graduate scholarship. Snyder is a master’s student in environmental engineering. She earned a BS in civil engineering from USU and belongs to several student organizations, including the Society of Women Engineers, AWWA, the Water Environment Association of Utah and the Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society. Snyder currently works at Stantec Engineering and has interned at Carollo Engineers, Central Valley Water Reclamation Facility and WesTech Engineering. As a water and wastewater engineer, she hopes to design innovative ideas to solve problems associated with drinking water and wastewater.
The Intermountain Section includes all of Utah and Eastern Idaho. The scholarship program supports students pursuing studies in the field of water quality, supply and treatment in the Intermountain West.
