College of Engineering’s Val Potter Takes New Role

April 26, 2019 — Students, faculty and staff at the College of Engineering extend a heartfelt farewell and thanks to Val Potter, Executive Director of Development. Potter is transferring to a new university development role where he will specialize in economic development and special projects for USU Extension.

Potter joined the College of Engineering in 2005. During his time as chief development director, he cultivated relationships with many donors and industry leaders. He established more than 100 new student scholarship endowments and secured millions in donations from the David G. and Diann L. Sant family for the construction of the Sant Engineering Innovation Building. Thanks to the ongoing support of the Sant family, Potter also established the first endowed professorship in the College of Engineering — the David G. and Diann L. Sant Endowed Professorship in Electrical and Computer Engineering.

He was also instrumental in cultivating relationships with longtime university supporters Richard and Moonyeen Anderson who have contributed millions in donations for engineering student scholarships and for the naming of the Richard and Moonyeen Anderson Engineering Classroom Building and auditorium.

Potter has filled a crucial role in the College of Engineering, securing donations for scholarships, faculty research efforts and other endowments that support student projects and competitions.

In addition to his service to the university, Potter has led a distinguished political career. He served as mayor of North Logan City, as a councilmember for Cache County, and in 2017 he was elected to the Utah House of Representatives, District 3.

The College of Engineering wishes Potter tremendous success in his new role.

He will relocate to a new office at Innovation Campus, building 1770.
