Nominate a Doctoral Student Researcher of the Year

Submission Deadline: December 13, 2019 (When department nominations need to go to the College)

Nomination Procedures

The Office of Research and Graduate Studies seeks nominations from the colleges for outstanding Doctoral students to be considered for University Doctoral Student Researcher of the Year. (Submissions can only be made by the college deans’ offices). All college Doctoral Student Researchers of the Year should be submitted to be part of the selection pool, from which one will be chosen as the University Doctoral Student Researcher of the Year.

Criteria

Student must be selected and endorsed by his or her college dean. (Submission process for colleges only.)

Submission Materials

  • Name and A # of nominee
  • Curriculum vitae in standard format
  • No more than 3 letters of support (writers should address specific examples of researcher’s work and effectiveness)
  • A 2-page statement by the candidate (including summary of research projects, grants, presentation and recent publication, with an emphasis on USU involvement )
  • 200-word bio of the nominee
  • Current photograph (professional-type headshot preferred)

Process

  • Colleges should seek broad input to identify college nominees.
  • Colleges will utilize a college-specific process of selection.
  • College deans will make the final decision in selecting their college Doctoral Researcher of the Year.
  • The college deans’ offices will fill out the online form to submit their selectees for consideration for the University Doctoral Researcher of the Year.
  • The Office of Research and Graduate Studies, in consultation with USUSA, will select the University Doctoral Researcher of the Year from the nominees submitted online.

Recognition

  • The University Doctoral Student Researcher of the Year will receive a $300 monetary award.
  • Recipient will be announced at USU’s annual Robins Awards Ceremony.
  • College nominees will be recognized at the Student Research Awards Ceremony during Research Week.

Nominate a Graduate Student Teacher of the Year

Submission Deadline: December 13, 2019 (When department nominations need to go to the College)

Nomination Procedures:

The College of Engineering seeks nominations from the departments for outstanding graduate students to be considered for College Graduate Student Teacher of the Year. (Submissions can only be made by the department heads). All department Graduate Student Teachers of the Year should be submitted to be part of the selection pool from which one will be chosen as the College Graduate Student Teacher of the Year.

Criteria

  • Student must be employed as either a Graduate Teaching Assistant, Graduate Research Assistant, Graduate Instructor, or General Graduate Assistant for the full year.
  • Student must be selected and endorsed by his or her department head.

Submission Materials

  • Name and A-number of nominee
  • Department of Nominee
  • 200-word bio of the nominee
  • Curriculum vitae in standard format (file upload)
  • A 2-page statement by the candidate, detailing his or her teaching experiences and student feedback, with an emphasis on USU involvement (file upload)

Process

  • Department heads should seek broad input to identify department nominees.
  • Departments will utilize a department-specific process of selection
  • Department Heads will make the final decision in selecting the department Graduate Student Teacher of the Year.
  • The departments will fill out the online form to submit their selectees for consideration for the College of Engineering Graduate Teacher of the Year.
  • The Dean’s Office will select the College Graduate Student Teacher of the Year from the nominees submitted online.

Recognition

  • Recipient will be recognized at the College of Engineering Research Award Ceremony held during USU Research Week.

Nominate a College Undergraduate Researcher of the Year

Nomination Procedures

The College of Engineering seeks nominations from departments for outstanding undergraduate students to be considered for the College Undergraduate Researcher of the Year Award. (Submissions can only be made by the department heads.) All department Undergraduate Researchers of the Year nominations should be submitted to the Dean’s Office to be part of the selection pool from which one will be chosen as the College Undergraduate Researcher of the Year.

Submission Materials

  • Nominee Name and A-number
  • Nominee phone number and email address
  • Nomination Letter from the Department Head (file upload)

Process

  • Department Head should seek broad input department nominees.
  • Departments will utilize a department-specific process of selection.
  • Department Heads will make the final decision in selecting their department Undergraduate Researcher of the Year.
  • The departments will fill out the online form below to submit its department Undergraduate Researcher of the Year for consideration for the College of Engineering Undergraduate Researcher of the Year.
  • The Dean’s Office will select the College Graduate Researcher of the Year from the nominees submitted online.

Recognition

  • Recipient will be recognized at the College of Engineering Research Award Ceremony held during USU Research Week.

Nominate a Scholar of the Year

Submission Deadline: December 13, 2019 (When department nominations need to go to the College)

Nomination Procedures

The Scholar of the Year Award is given each year to recognize and emphasize excellence in scholarship. Other service and student activity involvement may be considered in the selection process, but the main emphasis will be on scholarly achievement.

Each college dean is to appoint a committee to select an outstanding student scholar from each college. The Provost’s Office will appoint a committee to select the Scholar of the Year from the eight college nominees. The person is recognized at the annual Robins Award in April 2017.

The nominee should be receiving a bachelor's degree at this year's commencement exercises.

Criteria

The recipient shall have participated in the following manner:

  1. Achieved outstanding academic success.
  2. Evidence of scholarly activities such as:
    1. Completed undergraduate research
    2. Awarded an URCO or other grant for undergraduate research
    3. Participated as a Writing Fellow, Teaching Assistant, Undergraduate Teaching Fellow, Research Assistant, Supplemental Instruction (SI) Leader, etc.
    4. Participation in performances or other artistic endeavors
    5. Presentations at professional conferences
    6. Publications
    7. Participation in the Honors Program Participation in professional or scholarly organizations
    8. Completion of a senior project or thesis

Submission Materials

In order to provide greater uniformity in the nomination materials provided to the Committee, the following must be prepared, with a maximum of 15 pages total length, approximately 12 pt. font. Materials must be submitted in PDF format via electronic form.

  • A letter written by the faculty member best suited to address the students’ scholarly achievements, including the impact of their scholarly work.
  • A narrative summary of the scholarly work (written by the student), including a discussion of the impact of the work.
  • A summary of service and student activity involvement.
  • Transcript of credits.
  • Curriculum vitae.
  • A short biography (2 paragraph maximum).
  • A professional portrait.
