Day 4 activities
The students split into groups and did one of many activities including:
Hyrum Reservoir Site Visit:
The students went to a local lake (Hyrum Reservoir) to ride a boat and collect more data about lake water and carry on with their work from when they visited first dam lake. One of the students commented about this activity saying: "It was really fun to go out on the boat and I feel like I learned a lot and got a lot of work done. It was fun to learn about the zooplankton and to learn how science and engineering go hand in hand." Another student said: "We went to a new lake today, I got to ride in a speed boat for the first time and luckily didn't get motion sick. We took samples from the water and managed to save a grasshopper from drowning!"
Logan Canyon Visit:
The students took a hike up the mountain and took water samples and measurements at various stops along the Logan river. One student commented about this activity saying: "Today was probably the best of all. We went hiking and played in the water. I learned more about technlogy and engineering today and loved the experience we had. I had a ton of fun learning about measuring the water and whe we measure the water."
Using Drones:
The entire group had their pictures and video taken using a drone. Later some of the teachers and students had a chance to fly a small drone.
Creating Posters and Presentations:
Having collected data all week, the students split into their groups and worked for a few hours on creating a poster presentation about what they learned throughout the week. One of the students said in their journal: "I learned how to catch the reader's eyes when making a poster!" At the end of the day one of the students was pretty sad to see the camp end and said in the daily journal: "It was amazing! We hiked for 4 hours and played in water. I'm sad that today is the last full day of camp. I'm going to miss it here. We all made new friends and amazing memories we will never forget. I can't wait till next year and see what comes next. I am going to miss camp and everything it has to offer." Another student said: "It really gave me hands-on opportunities that will help me in the future. It has taught me how college really works."
