Vroom n' Zoom Board
Project
Purpose: The Vroom & Zoom Board was created to be an exciting, reliable, and practical mode of transportation. Riding a standard longboard is already fun, and the purpose of this project is to make it even better.
Motivation: This project aimed to improve the riding experience by adding electrical components to overcome common problems with a standard longboard. These issues are:
- Uphill travel
- Downhill travel
- Fatigue from travel
Solution: Use electric components to provide a means to overcome the stated issues. This was done by designing and constructing a battery system and implementing an electric motor, speed control, and transmitter.
System
Methods
Battery Pack:
- 10 Series 2 Parallel pack
- 30Q 18650 cells – 3.6V, 3000 mAh, 15A continuous discharge
- 0.15mm x 4 Nickel Welding Strips
Speed Control: Flipsky VESC
- Open-source speed control software that allows tuning and control over motor, speed, acceleration, transmitter, min/max currents, and regenerative braking.
Mechanics:
- 3500-Watt 190KV 6374 Belt Motor
- Double Kingpin Trucks
- 40-inch deck
- 110mm wheels
- 36T wheel pulley, 15T motor pulley
Conclusion
The Vroom n’ Zoom Board was a success. By implementing my design, all of the objectives were met. This project achieved the following goals:
- Top speed > 20 mph
- 10+ Mile Range
- Braking: Controlled regenerative braking downhill.
- Uphill Travel: Up to 25 degrees
- Controlled acceleration
