Brief Biography


Rose Qingyang Hu is a Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. Prior to joining Utah State University, she held various industry and academia positions, actively participated in industry 4G standards/technology development and system level simulations. She was an Assistant Professor with the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department of Mississippi State University during 2002-2004. During 1998-2002 and during 2004-2010, she held several management and Senior research positions in telecommunication industry. Her current research interests include next generation (5G) wireless network, Internet of Things, cyber physical systems, design and optimization, simulation, modeling and performance evaluation. She has published about 230 journal and conference papers and holds over 30 patents in these areas. She is a Fellow of IEEE.

Prof. Rose Hu was appointed as editors for IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications, IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology, IEEE Communications Magazine, IEEE Wireless Communications Magazine, IEEE Internet of Things Journal.

Prof. Rose Hu's research group received the Best Paper Award from IEEE ICC 2016 (in total 15 awards out of 1000+ accepted papers).

Prof. Rose Hu's research group received the Best Paper Award from IEEE VTC Spring 2016 (in total 4 awards out of 500 accepted papers).

Prof. Rose Hu was named Researcher of the Year, ECE department, Utah State University, 2016.

Prof. Rose Hu was named the prestigious IEEE Communications Society Distinguished Lecturer 2015-2016.

Prof. Rose Hu's research group received the Best Paper Award from IEEE ICC 2015 (in total 15 awards out of 1200+ accepted papers).

Prof. Rose Hu is awarded a three-year NSF project as PI on 5G and IoT. The project starts in September 2015.

Prof. Rose Hu delivered a very well received a half-day tutorial on 5G wireless networks and IoT during IEEE ICC 2015.

Prof. Rose Hu is serving as a guest editor for IEEE Communications Magazine Special Issue on Software Defined Wireless Networks (detailed Call For Paper). The submission deadline is April 1, 2015.

Our PhD student Yiran Xu was awarded the competitive IEEE Globecom 2014 student travel grant. Congratulations to Yiran!

Prof. Rose Hu is awarded a three-year NSF project as PI on the Sustainability, Scalability, Efficiency, and Reliability Research for M2M enabled Smart Grid Communications. The project starts on Oct 1, 2014.

Our paper "An Energy Efficient and Spectrum Efficient Wireless Heterogeneous Network Framework for 5G Systems" is in the June 2014 list of the top ten most popular articles published in all IEEE ComSoc periodicals and among Top 100 Downloads in July 2014 IEEE Xplore.

Prof. Rose Hu's research paper was ranked among top 50 papers at IEEE Globecom 2014.

Prof. Rose Hu was named Researcher of the Year, ECE department, Utah State University, 2014.

Prof. Rose Hu was named Researcher of the Year, College of Engineering, Utah State University, 2014.

Prof. Rose Hu was awarded a three-year NSF project as PI to carry out research on the next generation wireless network cross-layer optimization and radio resource management. The project starts on Sep 1, 2013.

Prof. Hu delivered a webinar talk on communications architecture for M2M enabled smart grid to IEEE ComSoc North America region.

Prof. Hu has more than 20 patents disclosed in years 2012 and 2013 on LTE HetNet mobility management, interference management, radio resource management.
