Biography

Dr. Ran Sun is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Utah State University. He received his Ph.D. in Civil and Environmental Engineering (Transportation Systems) from the University of California, Davis, and was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Michigan.

Teaching Interests

Dr. Sun teaches courses on Traffic Operations and Management, and Transportation Network Analysis.

Research Interests

Dr. Sun's research centers on AI-driven modeling and digital infrastructure for advancing intelligent, connected, and resilient transportation systems. His work lies at the intersection of transportation systems engineering, spatiotemporal data science, and AI, with applications in traffic management, mobility resilience, and autonomous systems. He is particularly interested in developing AI-driven models for large-scale network dynamics, learning-based simulation, and data-driven decision-making in complex mobility environments.
