Founders Day & Old Main Society Celebration 2021

Panel Discussion/Presentation

Each year at Founders Day, Utah State University celebrates the steadfast and visionary men and women who sacrificed to establish our great institution and honors those who today sacrifice to ensure a world of opportunity for future generations eager to achieve their hopes and dreams.
Old Main, affectionately remembered by succeeding generations of students and characterized by the bell tower, has been a distinctive icon of Utah State University for all who have walked its halls as students, faculty, or guests. The Old Main Society was established in 1967 to recognize those who have risen to the challenge of the founders and assisted the university through their private gifts. We thank and honor those individuals who selflessly contribute their time and resources for the future of Utah State

Investigations of Turbulent Multiphase Flows Using Optical Measurement Techniques

Conference/Seminar

Small inertial particles in turbulence appear in a number of environmental flows such as dust, sand, rain, snow or sediment in the atmospheric boundary layer, in rivers, during deep-sea mining or on Mars. Particle dynamics, including accelerations and concentrations, depend (among other things) on gravity and inertia. In this talk I will present results of recent high-Reynolds-number experiments of inertial particles in turbulence which are performed in a turbulence box (Re? = 450) and an atmospheric boundary layer wind tunnel (Ret = 19,000). These results are of direct use in prediction and modeling of phenomena such as droplet growth in clouds, fall speed of snowflakes and particle concentrations in dust storms.

Biological Engineering Dept. Seminar Series

Conference/Seminar

Biological Engineering is pleased to welcome from Quansys Biosciences - Mr. Adam Brown, CEO; Dr. Brett Baumgartner, R&D; and Mr. Chris Lyman.

Presenting: "Seroprevalence of SARS-CoV-2 studied using a Novel Multiplex ELISA Platform"

A novel multiplex platform for enzyme linked immunoassay (ELISA) has been used to study seroprevalence of antibodies to SARS-CoV-2 in community populations. The assay detects antibodies to Spike 1, Spike 2, and Nucleocapsid epitopes on the SARS-CoV-2 virus. The relative levels of these antibodies, accompanied by a questionnaire, can indicate status of vaccination or prior infection. This platform is being used by University of Minnesota, Minnesota Health Department, and the National Opinion Research Center (NORC) at University of Chicago to examine seroprevalence of antibodies to COVID-19 in Minnesota.

A meet and greet will be immediately following in ENGR 101.

Order of the Engineer Ring Ceremony

Ceremony/Awards/Celebration

All Engineering graduates are invited to participate in this year's "Order of the Engineer" Ring Ceremony to accept the "Obligation of an Engineer". Participation is a voluntary step to show your dedication to the field of engineering as you work in and with the public.

What is an Engineer's Ring Ceremony?
The Ring Ceremony is the public induction of candidates into the Order of the Engineer, during which the engineer candidates formally accept the Obligation of an Engineer and receive a stainless steel ring to be worn as a symbol on the small finger of the working hand.

What is the "Obligation of an Engineer"?
The Obligation is the formal statement of an engineer's responsibilities to the public and to the profession. The obligation is publicly accepted by an engineer during induction at a Ring Ceremony.

What is the Purpose?
To stimulate formal public recognition by engineers in the U.S. of two basic principles:
- The primary purpose of the engineering profession is the protection of the public, health, safety, and welfare.
- All members of the engineering profession share a common bond.
