BENG 5620/6620 Metabolic Engineering

This course is open to undergraduate and graduate students. The lecture sessions will cover the fundamental knowledge of cellular metabolic pathways, basic principles of metabolic engineering, metabolic flux analysis, regulation of metabolic pathways, applications of metabolic engineering, and biosynthesis of primary and secondary metabolites. In the lab sessions, students will have opportunities to conduct experiments and obtain hands-on gene cloning skills and genetic engineering techniques which are often used for manipulation of metabolic pathways.

BENG 3200 Introduction to Unit Operations in Biological Engineering


This is an undergraduate student course. The students will understand the basic biochemical engineering principles and key unit operations involved in biological engineering. The topics covered include mass and energy balances, fluid flow, heat transfer, mass transfer, reaction and cell growth kinetics, reactior engineering, and downstream processing unit operations.
