Fungal Mineralization & Potential Applications
In the field of microbial biomineralization, a lot of attention has been paid on processes carried out by bacteria, and very little is known about the contribution of fungi to the genesis of common biominerals, such as calcium carbonate.
Our group studies fundamental principles of fungal biomineralization and the potential to produce and engineer biominerals using fungi. Fungal biomineralization could contribute to the creation of alternative materials to cement.
