2016 Graduate Researcher of the Year Award
Troy is from West Valley City, Utah. He received his bachelor’s and master’s concurrently from Utah State in spring 2012. His master’s research studied how boiling heat transfer occurs in zero gravity. Troy flew on NASA’s “Vomit Comet” to perform this experiment with the Get Away Special team and he continues to mentor that team of undergraduates. His current research is designed to measure the thermal properties of natural and synthetic spider silk.
He graduated with a PhD in mechanical engineering in May 2016 and has recently been offered a faculty position at BYU in Provo.
